Anybody heard about this? There's a buzz amongst the Tech Departments throughout Utah's School Districts as this new funding has been allocated for the purpose of placing a Smart Device in the hands of every student.
We are getting ready to place a wireless access point in every single classroom in every school throughout our District, although I can't speak for what the other Districts are doing.
This is going to dramatically increase the need for Tech Support staff. For the time being we're pretty occupied just helping the Teachers with their devices, now we're going to triple that with supporting student devices. No complaints on my end though, I can't complain when my job becomes more dependable.
Some of the speculation is that we'll be placing a Chromebook in the hands of every student. Possibly for Jr High on up, and maybe iPads for Elementary students though. Nothing's official until we beef up our infrastructure.
