I'm afraid that the cold truth is that nothing will change as long as the money is flowing.

That lady is spot on. But I think in this world today the voices or actions of the people that disagree with her are stronger than the ones that agree.

Agree. Women think they need to be like what is in the media. It's a horrible cycle.

Sex sales.... if you don't like it make the point known with your wallet. The only way this will ever change is if it effects a corporations bottom line.

Now I'm off to watch institutions of higher learning exploit women.... err... I mean watch some college football...

and tomorrow will be more of the same on a professional level....

Giselle got exploited for $42m this year. She must feel like crap about the way women are treated in the media....

In my opinion, just because it generates a lot of money does not mean that it's right. But I agree with Iceaxe when he said that the only way it will ever change is when it effects the bottom line.

Exactly. They're not getting "exploited" for free.

If you want to whine about exploitation of women I have zero sympathy --- all of these "exploited" women are laughing all the way to the bank, and do FAR better than their male counterparts.

The media, like government, is a reflection of us, the society we have built and continue to nurture. So it is WE who treat women a certain way, not "the Media"; all they are doing is holding a mirror up to our activity. We so love to watch ourselves...

Until we stop creating these false divisions, no change will occur.

I would also like a 5 minutes of what the media does to men video.. otherwise this is just plain sexist and must stop :bootyshake:

I disagree. I believe we are a reflection of what the media dishes at us. We strive to appear like the fashionable and beautiful icons in the Carl's Jr and Bud Light commercials...not the other way around.

The chicken/egg question doesn't matter. What matters is the false division we create to perpetuate the illusion that we are different and separate from "the Media" We aren't!

You know what cracks me up about this? Take a look at the audience members in the video...they're all average betty's that could loose a few pounds. A bunch of weak minded young women with self esteem issues. One of them actually dragged her panty waist boyfriend to this "skinny girls must die" seminar.

I remember when they started bitching about this stuff back in the 70s...I thought then as I do now that the only ones really concerned with it are those that aren't satisfied with who they are. It's sad...my sister is like that, always has been concerned first and foremost with how she is viewed by other people.

The tragic thing about is that most of those women can easily be loved by a man...like a goddess, but they're too stupid to know it. Probably because they hook up with sissies who wear chick jeans.

Has the media really done this to women? Or is this a reflection of women's own values?

Most of the products that are advertised in this way are geared to, and bought by women. Why don't they stop buying them? Are they powerless to make their own decisions?

Oh, I think if society were kissing female butt 24/7/365 it still wouldn't be good enough. Reality is that us males innovate, strategize, engineer, and build at a ratio of like, 100 to 1 of the females. That's the way it's been, and that's the way it'll be probably forever. Sorry girls, but on the whole the males outperform. Period.

That's not to say big kudos to all the girls and women out there that excel in one way or another. Right on.

In regards to the sexism thing...it was -15 degrees here the other day and as I was waiting for a light to change, and good looking woman walked through the crosswalk with a short skirt, black stockings and 2" pumps. She looked good...sexy. Must have been uncomfortable in that cold, but getting the attention of the boys in the office trumps that, I guess.

In other words, they dress like they're ready to rock and roll yet complain that they're not taken seriously? I think women have a lot more power than the ones that bitch about this stuff realize...some women know it (perhaps the hottie in the pumps?) and the ones that don't are the ones complaining. It's good to be male though, I must admit.

Women are still compensated far beyond men in the looks department. That is unfair, sexist and just wrong. But women continue to complain, thinking somehow they have a leg to stand on.

Remember this chick? She was fired from Citibank for being way too smoking hot. Apparently the boys couldn't think straight when she was in the board room.
