The result was a higher quote, which Sanford said was for $390 per month for a "silver" plan with a higher deductible. Still too expensive

A cheaper "bronze" plan, Sanford said, came in at $324 per month, but also with a high deductible - also not in her budget.

$324 or $390 sounds reasonable for health insurance, especially for a family and for someone self employed, even if it does have a high deductible. There's no way you can cover a family at $169 a month.

Less than $400 for a family is reasonable. That's less than $200/paycheck.

I pay about $195/month for a individual plan via my company, which covers my pre-existing condition of Diabetes Type 1 (had it for over 16years now - and I'm 29 currently). And it covers it at 90/10 - Go Aetna! So a family at $400 sounds very reasonable for a person with a steady job.
