I just picked up a GoPro 3 Black edition. I had been using the GoPro 2 with the video setting on 720 60 fps. With the GoPro 3 I need to get a micro sd card. Gopro suggest using one of the follow I have the standard size SanDisk Ultra and it work fine using the 720 60 fps.

There have been extensive discussions about this on the GoPro Fanatics forum.
The Sandisk cards were causing problems and the GoPro firmware was throttling back the bit rate (only for Sandisk) to compensate.

Make sure you are using the most recent approved card list to select from.

I'm still using my Hero 2, so I don't have first hand experience.

I'm using a SanDisk 32GB Class 10 MicroSD, which gives me @ 2 hours 15 minutes of footage on 1080p 60fps mode

I fortunately haven't had any problems circling around about the card losing half of it's storage capacity, things like that. I've had my Hero3 Black since last Christmas and have probably shot about 1 video per week.

I must not have the Extreme version, I think my card cost around $32 at WalMart a year ago.

I got the SanDisk 64 GB Ultra hoping that it would work and it did not. I got video riding my bike at 1080-60fps, 960-48 fps, 720-120fps, and 720-60fps. All the video except 720-60fps did not look good. It is missing video. It looked like it would pause then jump ahead. I believe that this is a problem with it not being able to write the data to the SD card fast enough but I’m not sure. For now I’m just going to use it at 720-60fps

Have you updated the firmware lately on your GoPro?

No I haven't I assumed I didn't need to since it is brand new. I will check the revision and see if its up to date

I would advise against SanDisk 64gb cards. GoPro has a tendency to fry those. I had awesome underwater footage of two different torpedo rays and one giant lobster that took a jab at my thigh and the card got fried. I spent close to $200 on recovery software and even then, I was only able to recover half the card. Upon frying, the 64 gb card shows one partition of about 32 gb. At least in my case. No site of the other 32 gb.

As far as jumpy video, I had an issue with playing 1448 res vids but I installed one of the newer video players with the latest codecs and it solved the problem.

What sd card do you recommend? I will try a different video player

I can't really recommend any particular 64GB card. A significant portion of the complaints had to do specifically with 64GB cards so I opted for three 32GB cards instead. I got SanDisks and Polaroid. No complaints with either.

Here's the video I was able to save ;-)

I stumbled across this GoPro Forum. This answered all my questions.

I had a friend try to explain to me that if you run 1080 for 15-30 seconds when card is fresh then shut down then start again you get past what I believe I'm understanding here. Some kind of test set up thing or what not to set it. This is something I've tried with the GP 2 with the micro card inserts in the adapters. Seems they have some kind of test section to set them right but truth is it works for me and I just don't know. If I remember right this is some kind of fail safe or security thing with micro cards and I had bought two with the full size adaptor and this only needs to be done with this set up but again I'm running a GP2. Set up at 1080 and I forget the fps but it is the one button vid set up. 15 seconds to set and one button off and your ready to roll. Never understood why but when we got back to the Hotel he had it downloaded and ready. Hell I can't even find my imovie anymore:ne_nau:
