Thanks for your patience as we were having some technical difficulties. We mistakenly hired some developers from the HeathCare.gov project. Boy was that a mistake! :lol8:
You'll notice that we've changed some things. It was kinda like remodeling your kitchen. Once you start tearing into it, the project ends up being a much bigger endeavor then you expected.
The new skin is much more scalable for the future and we've needed to ditch our old skin for a while. I customized it from scratch and it was just not a long term solution. @Sombeech, my sever guy and a couple developer friends have helped when I could pry them away from work. Luckily I'm currently unemployed, which came in handy. I've been living on about 3 hours sleep a night this entire week. I'm starting to get sick from it all and my wife is barely talking to me. The worst is that I am exhausted, which makes it really hard when you have to concentrate and not screw stuff up.
Anyway, we hope you like the new design. You'll notice at the bottom of the screen that there are 10 colors to choose from and you can set the forum as fixed or "flex" depending on what you prefer. We'll be adding more and tweaking things as we go. Thanks again for your patience. :2thumbs:
Cheers,

oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!! way to go! I am a fan of the upgrade! Definitely modern. Very sweet!
Congrats to all those involved, a thank-less job indeed as it's all behind the scenes. But here is your moment to shine :cool2: And tell your wife thank you too.

Hey Friends! Just a couple of things you'll notice aren't there - BUT WILL BE SHORTLY
the "Like this post" button, user tagging (with the @ symbol), and some smaller little details. We do plan on bringing them back but want to take it slow and try one at a time, making sure if the site breaks, we know exactly what did it. :cool2:
Hopefully you'll find this style a little more crisp. less cluttered, and a little faster loading time.
And, not a huge deal but we're letting you get your crayons out and color the forum to your choice.
Down at the bottom of any page, you'll see the dropdown. The default is "Bogley Blue Flex". The Flex means it will adjust the width to your monitor, where there is another blue that will keep it locked at a specific width.
Go ahead and customize a bit, and we'll keep working behind the scenes. Thanks for your patience and we hope to keep improving everyday.

Well, I'm finally glad it's back online, but a little head's up would be nice in the future. That way I can schedule my own overdue tasks to complete while you're hard at work revamping the site.

Nice work Scott, Justin and crew!
Observations:
Photos posted on a white background are not as pleasing to the eye as photos posted on a black background.
Also, black text on a white page is harder on the eye than white text on a black page. Black text on a grey page, as before, is also easy on the eye.
Not saying Bogley should be blacked out... But I'm wondering, will there be a way to change the background or text colors?
Thanks for keeping the pirate ship afloat guys! :2thumbs:

I agree with Bob...I much prefer the darker background against the bolder, blacker letters. Is there a way to have a "classic grey" option? I know that if this is it, I'll get used to it...but if you look to the right where it says "Become a Bigshot", I like that look.

Thanks for the feedback@Slot Machine. These are the stock themes, so we can certainly make adjustments. Perhaps we'll darken up the B&W theme or make a new one. This was a first crack at it. You'd be amazed at how many people didn't like the dark theme when we switched from white back in the day. Different strokes right. I'm a metallic/grey guy myself, but one of my fav colors is the light blue. If anyone is interested in helping modify a theme, send me a PM. It's not really hard and you don't need to be that technical, just takes some time and tinkering. We could have a more bogley-esqe option. :2thumbs:

Thanks guys, and well done. I was getting tired of looking for something interesting over at CC. I agree with the comments about dark lettering on white background (harder on the eyes). I also miss the link back to the forum menu that was right after the quick reply dialogue box. Not a big fan of bright colors, I will try out the black and white theme for now. Thanks again for all your work.

I also miss the link back to the forum menu that was right after the quick reply dialogue box.Yes, these links at the bottom are known as lower "bread crumbs". these will definitely make their way back to the forum, rather than needing to scroll all the way up to the top to get back to the forum.
One quick tip while we wait for me to test that feature out here, is the "Quick Navigation" where you can jump to a different forum, or even hit the "Top" button to skip the scrolling part.
But I agree and we'll get those lower bread crumbs showing up here possibly this weekend.

Another thing we're eager to throw back up there are the quick links to show the latest Trip Reports for all forums, and each individual forum.
And while I'm talking about Trip Reports, adding the link below each user's avatar called "My Trip Reports". It made it nice if you were a fan of somebody's Trip Reports, you could click that link and view ALL of their stuff without performing a search.
This stuff will be coming back, and hopefully more of your ideas. This was just a pretty big software update and believe it or not, one little thing like that can cause the infamous "White Page" that we were all getting this week if it's not compatible.
Please keep your ideas coming, and especially what you liked about bogley up until last week, (and what you hated!) I'll make those the priority items to fix.
Thanks, and let's keep this thread rolling.

Yes, different strokes. Some people like Van Gogh. Some people like dogs playing poker. Just don't listen to the people that don't have an aesthetic eye or we will all go blind.
I did a little homework to better educate myself on the topic of eye strain. White on black (for simplicity white/black) is bad. Black/white is better. However the extreme contrast of black/white still creates eye strain.
This webpage offered some education on the topic: http://www.writer2001.com/colwebcontrast.htm
Black/beige or black/pale green produces little eye strain and is very appealing. The CC uses the black/beige combo and it looks nice (gotta give it to them, their web designer has a very keen aesthetic eye). Beige also produces less contrast when viewing photos.
However, 'mid tone grey' or '50% grey' is the best background for viewing photos. Not best in my opinion, but best scientifically. With a black background your iris is a little too open, with a white background your iris is a little too closed. These adjustments of your eye affect the perception of color in the displayed photos.
Anyway, I'd like to help create a better Bogley and would be happy to assist you in modifying some themes. I'm sure Tony would too, he has a great aesthetic eye.
I'll send you an email.

I see that you have jumped on the "bandwagon" to dim text (sort of grey-ish). Its what happens when programmers try and become interior decorators (the interior decorators have not helped MS Office one bit). All this "interior decorating" looks pretty but is harder to read. On a non-commercial website I guess that is fine - but I do hate it when I see hard to read text on government web sites, user support web sites (HMOs etc) and even places trying to sell something (why make the process harder).

on the subject of eyes and text - text on computer screens, such as my modern Dell 24" HD display with IPS is still made up of pixels, it is not solid like printed text - so on-screen text is always less distinct (for any font that we like, with curves, not silly computer fonts) than printed text. Then, when you grey (gray) it out, it becomes even less distinct.

Put me on the list for a darker background. Woot! The white seems to blind me a bit. Either I'm getting old or my monitor is getting too big. Hahaha. Although facebook has a white background and it doesn't seem to blind me. Weird. Perhaps the amount of open space on here vs facebook has ads every where. Anyways, just glad you guys are back online, missed ya!

Yeah this was a Tapatalk update.
You'll notice when uploading a photo, if you choose image, it will be a Tapatalk hosted image. If you choose attachment it will be hosted here on Bogley.
If you want the Bogley hosted image to show "inline" with your post rather than down below in the attachment box, just tap on the attachment and it throws it inline where your cursor was.
These are all uploaded via the "attachment" and then tapping them to put them inline with my post

One of the forums I frequent uses Vbulletin as well, and I'm just tossing this idea out there to make Bogley more family-friendly (if needs be). There is a toggle which allows a user when they sign-up (or they can do it later) which adds a censorship filter. So basically, if the toggle is switched, then certain sub-forum categories as well as certain words are censored. Of course there will always be ways to bypass it, however.
Also, anyone who registers can input there birthday and based on their age (below 18 since nudity is allowed in the basement) it would keep it relatively clean for the younger folks.

The what's new button lists the forum with new posts, The problem is if I enter the thread through the what's new button it takes me to the first post in the thread and not the last unread post in the thread, which kinda sucks on threads with 5 or 6 pages.
It might have always been this way but I have started using the what's new button since it is displayed so proudly. In tapatalk the what's new (unread posts) button takes you to the last unread post in the thread which is really sweet. If the what's new button worked like tapatalk that would be much better IMHO.

Yeah I noticed that too. We updated the software, which changed the way this button acts. Some other people were complaining about it on other websites. There is a code fix to revert it to function like it used to. We'll have to put that on our list.

Sure, we can set up a profanity filter for specific groups. The nudity thing in the Rubbish Bin, we'll just have to keep a better moderation on it. I can't go in there during work, I'm at school, could lose my job. But yeah, good ideas.

I see what you mean. If you hit the title of the thread it takes you to the first post, but if you hit "See More", that tends to take you to the last post, or your first unread post.

I guess it's kind of like how the main thread page works. If you hit the small blue arrow next to the date on the right, this goes to the last post
