Anyone been down Neon recently? How are KPH? What equipment is necessary?

What are recommendations/conditions for intermediate difficulty canyons in Escalante? - Canyons doable with moderate beginners w/ expert leadership, preferably in a day.

Thanks!

Davis Gulch
Llewellyn Gulch
Boulder Side Slot
Egypt 3
Spencer/Metro

Neon isn't that difficult, but I'm guessing that it is full of cold water right now. Go very prepared if you do try it.

A friend told me that he heard that they may even be trying to keep people off HITRR. He's headed out today to try and some canyons and wasn't sure if he was gonna be shut down by it...

HITRR is open but glen canyon recreation area is closed. Neon is in Glen canyon and so are Davis and Llewellyn. Egypt canyons are in escalante national monument and they are open.

It may be open very soon, perhaps by tomorrow.

Thanks! Since the Ranger told us Neon was technically off limits we :naughty::hail2thechief::cool2:"did not":angryfire::hail2thechief: do Neon last Friday. If we had, we would probably report that it was chock full and easy and just over 10 hours round trip car-2-car from "More Fun" entrance. We would probably have found it surprisingly warm and fast since the keeper holes are obviously going to be plumb full. We can confirm that we did Egypt 2 on Saturday which was surprisingly dry. Disappointing actually. But the rappel was fun, of course. We finished up by driving back out Egypt Road (which is in great shape) and waved at said ranger and then completed the "greatest hits" with a descent of Calf Creek Falls which was jolly good fun for all involved.
I wouldn't recommend any of these for "beginners" but great fun for a relatively experienced crew. And Neon in a day doesn't leave much room for error during these shortened hours and is a fairly stout hike in and out even with the canyon being fairly routine currently.
