A group of 6 went down Great Falls of the Fox in So. Cal. yesterday. About a mile upstream of the Big Tujunga Reservoir, Fox Creek hits a mass of hard granite and has cut a deep and narrow passage through that rock. As it does so it falls dramatically through the series of seven waterfalls that we call the Great Falls of the Fox. All are contained within a short section of gorge with towering cliffs on all sides. The descent is highlighted by the 100ft Great Falls. Easy hike up the fire roads until the cross country fun begins....lots of climbing and navigating scree and bush along the ridge-line until the scree slope drop into Fox Creek. Once in the creek we were greeted with LOTS of fallen trees and debris clogging up the creek. Luckily the technical section was pretty clean though. Water was very low and the pools were very cold. Many of the rappels had awkward starts and slippery algae. After the main technical section there is another long battle through brush and fallen trees until reaching the final 70ft rappel into the Big Tujunga Reservoir. The reservoir was very low so no swimming, just a long hike up the walls of the Tujunga to our car. A great canyon, marred by the painful approach, bushwhacking and exit. Once it's a class C in the spring it will be on the repeat list!6986669867

Did you have to swim across the reservoir at the end?

Any hint how this week storm may work out for the canyon flow?
I've been waiting to do it in full flow for a while.

Thanks

Luca--
It usually takes a few big storms for Fox to really flow hard. There are 2 places you can scout flow w/ minimal effort. You can see the last rap from the Big TJ canyon trail, maybe 10 minute hike in. The second place is right off of Big TJ Canyon Road, past the TH gate for Fox/classic/fall, just before Angeles Forest Highway. It's a small turnoff, big enough for one car, with binoc's you can see the last waterfall.
