Horse racing returns to Wyoming Downs this weekend


Live horse racing returns to Wyoming Downs for the first time since 2009 on Saturday and Sunday.


Post time is 1:30 p.m. Eight races are scheduled each day.

Why was it shut down since '09?

Long story... but basically running live races is a losing proposition for the track owner unless you are also allowed to offer off track betting (betting parlors located around the state of WY).

The short story is the Wyoming legislature has recently tied the two together so the track owners can now offer off track betting which is profitable. What the legislature did was good for horse racing as it provides a profitable way to fund the races and provide public recreation and entertainment.
