My original plan was to traverse the Uintas on the Highline trail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highline_Trail_%28Utah%29), like many people do every year. The logistics of getting a ride to the eastern start outside of Vernal and then one back to Salt Lake City from the western end on the Mirror lake highway is often the most challenging part of the 86 mile hike. Because the western portion of the Highline trail is quite familiar to me, as I have done a lot of backpacking in the area, I decided to make my life easier and just do a loop using the Leidy Peak trailhead as my put-in/takeout point.
The Leidy Peak trailhead is the traditional eastern starting point for the Highline trail traverse. There is also a Northern Highline trail, which we used to make the loop. Most people drop the cardinal location from the Highline trail

Well, in one trip you have now seen more of the Uintas than many people that have doing 5 or 6 separate hikes.

Beautiful photos and nice report. I'm in awe of you folks who can pack along 7+ days worth of food and provisions on a backpacking trip. I barely make it past two days.

And..."pack goats"?? First time I've ever heard of them!
