Cassidy Arch Canyon was amazing! We started the canyon early and the hike up was easy and only took about 40 minutes.

The first rappel is to the left of the canyon on a tree. This is where you set you your retrievable anchor and there was a crapy non retrievable one already set up there. We packed it up and set up our instead. The first and second rappel were 140 feet and about 1/3 of each were free hanging. The 3rd rappel was a 2 stage rappel that was short and sweet. The 4th, was a 15 foot rappel that was tiny to get through. The 5th, and probably my favorite is a 65 ft rappel through a natural arch. Then you come across a bridge that was super cool. We took a lunch break there and took tons of photos. The final rappel was short and sweet.

Overall, the canyon was just beautiful and tons of fun. It was short with tons of rappels and not too much hiking. It was beautiful and quickly jumped on my list of me favorite canyons. I highly recommend this to anyone. Just don't forget to use a revivable anchor at the top so that people who don't know what they are doing or anything about the canyon try to go.

(I can not claim all these pics, my friend Warren brought his nice camera and a lot of them belong to him)

Nice report! How'd you like that traverse over to rap #2?

I'm a big wimp with exposure like that. :eek2:

Nice! That's a great half day (or less) adventure. We did this canyon about a month ago as a warm up before doing Pandora. The very definition of short and sweet. Plus you get to hike to and rap behind a cool arch. We had trouble pulling the rope on that first rap, wondering if you did too? And can someone explain why Cassidy Arch is or isn't technically a bridge?

And can someone explain why Cassidy Arch is or isn't technically a bridge?

Great question, from wikipedia:

"The choice between bridge and arch is somewhat arbitrary."

The Natural Arch and Bridge Society identifies a bridge as a subtype of arch that is primarily water-formed.[1] By contrast, the Dictionary of Geological Terms defines a natural bridge as a "natural arch that spans a valley of erosion."

Awesome job, and great pics!

We were on the other cliff band on the 11th. Looks like around 9:30 am someone was having a really tough time getting their rope back from the arch. Was that you?

We suffered a similar fate and almost got a rope stuck.

Cassidy Arch is at the top of my list because you can buy homemade fruit pies at the shack just outside of the campground. Best way to do breakfast!

We did have some minor issues with our rope but got it figured out :) Might have been us :)

Also, the berry pies were tempting but I'm a pastry chef so I make them often enough. haha
