This makes me so sad :( I use to work at scout camps growing up and would routinely do the garbage runs. My deepest sympathies for this scouts friends and families. May God speed!

So sad!!!! Cant even imagine how everyone involded feels! Every time I take my scouts out the little bit of worry that something goes wrong is always there.

But thats why they are called accidents. Just doesnt make it any easier to deal with though.

God bless everyone affected, this will change alot of lives some for good and some for worse, hopefully this wasnt the result of carelessness

I hate to be hard on this, but damned. I've heard far too many of my managers (Scout Leaders) complain about the lack of parents helping out on these events. For the last few years, it's more surprising when a scout *ISN'T* killed on a campout / jamboree. Far too little supervision, but it seems especially in Utah, where the parents seem to treat this as "day-care" and don't get involved themselves in supervising/helping out.

Brute, I respectfully disagree, at least in my experience. I have found that Dads in all the areas of Utah and California that I have lived have been very involved and helpful. For the general car camps and back packing, there is never a shortage of dads. (Canyoneering is different). I will be going with my son this weekend on an 11 year old scout trip. Pretty sure every other dad is too. The ratio of dads to boys will be about 1.5:1 dads to boys. As for this tragedy, my heart and prayers go out to those involved. I cannot imagine the grief being felt by the family, leaders and scouts involved.
