Our school is heading to Zion again in September and we need some suggestions for a family friendly canyon similar to Yankee Boy. A few rappels, no wetsuits, no permits and just a good time.

Any suggestions?

That would be a short list. Birch Hollow, Cherry Canyon and a top secret one that you should ask Kody about. Kody = 2065toyota

(If I knew where it was, it would no longer be a secret.)

If you're just doing one canyon, Birch Hollow is probably your best option- very scenic, best with 2 cars. Boltergeist is over by Yankee Doodle- it has some fun rappels but isn't nearly as pretty. I've heard Water Canyon in Hilldale is nice but haven't done it yet- the approach hike is along the canyon rim so you can go all the way to the top or drop in at various points. If you have a truck that can handle serious sand driving- Rock Canyon is a great one with nice petroglyphs at the end.

Consider Red Cave (http://climb-utah.com/Zion/redcave.htm), in my humble opinion it's one of the more underrated canyons in the Zion area. No real rappels, but lots of wading and some swimming in normal conditions. No wetsuits required provided the weather is reasonably warm.
