It was only 95 here today in the Deep South - HOWEVER - the humidity was off the charts bringing our heat index up to 110. You can't even cool off in the pool since the water temp is now in the mid 90s. I was looking forward to some cool dry mountain air in a few weeks! Hope it cools down out there by then. :2thumbs:

Check out the Death Valley Forecast. The forecast is for low temperatures of 100F.

Anyway, the forecast is for pretty hot for here. Mid 90's. The nice thing here is that even at mid 90's we're still in the 40's at night.

It's been a really hot month for here and at this elevation. Still, only one night was above 50 because it was cloudy. The rest of the nights in June have been anywhere from freezing to the 40's.

My kids call my house the arctic! Hubby and I have a pile of blankets on the bed. Those that know me know that I sleep with the window open in the winter. It's like camping outside, but with all the comforts of home. We just have a swamp cooler, but it gets chilly in here! My 19 year old comes home from college on weekends, if she is not working, and complains that it's colder than winter. My 12 year old son has been competing in St. George for Golf this year and oh my gosh it's HOT!!!!! there! What a huge difference between the east side of Zion and St. George.

If the hourly data from noaa is right, Salt Lake City just smashed it's June record. Preliminary data says that it was 106F at 6 PM. Records go back to 1874 and the next hottest June readings were 104F set in 1961 and 1979.

Here in Craig, we tied our all time June record with 97F. The only other time it has been this hot in June was last year. Records go back to 1894.

Who else set records? I'm sure there were a lot.

Don't knock it until you have tried it.... I downed one of those bad boys after floating the Provo River on Friday and it was good.

Miserable hot here on the East side of Zion! The sky acted like it was going to rain, but it just moved on and left more humidity. I am a super grouch when it's hot! :angryfire:

Nothing better than getting butt naked, jumping in the vehicle, doing 80mph down the road with the AC on high, windows open, sunroof open and Led Zeppelin blasting. I suggest you try this, Tanya. Let me know when & where so I can assure you free passage! :haha:

East Zion is set for rain this week! Kayaking and Tubing here we come! Took kids to tube the river yesterday and their rears and feet are so bruised due to the low water level.

I haven't seen any news story, article, or official announcement yet, but looking at the raw data, July 2013 was the hottest month in history for both Craig and Salt Lake City (I haven't gone through the data for the other places).

Here's what I get from looking at the raw data:

The average temperature for Salt Lake City July 2013 was 81.4F degrees (an average high of ~97.1 and an average low of ~71.2). The old record was July 2007 with 83.95F degrees.

It was the warm nights that made the difference. The average low of 71.2F was the warmest ever by a healthy margin, but the average highs weren't quite as high as they were in 1960 when the average high was 98.2F (the average low in 1960 was 64.2, thus 2013 was much warmer). The lowest temperature in July 2013 in Salt Lake City was 66F, which has never happened. Only four other months have ever failed to drop below 60F in Salt Lake City history; July 2006 with a minimum of 62, July 2007 with a minimum of 61, July 2012 with a minimum of 63F and August 2012 with a minimum of 61F. All other Julys have dropped to the 40's and 50's (the record cold July temp is 40F).

While there were 13 days above 100F in Salt Lake City (average is 2), the all time maximum for the month didn't get close to breaking the record. There were two 104F days in July 2013 (1st and 10th), but the all time record is 107F set on July 26 1960 and July 13 2002.

In Craig, it was our hottest month on record as well with an average of 70.8F. The average high was 90.8F and the average low was 50.8F.

Watching the news late night they reported July was the hottest on record for SLC. Also mentioned we are one pace for third hottest year ever.

There's a good chance of it being the hottest summer, but the 3rd hottest year is going to be tough to break (at least in SLC and Craig) since January was so far below normal (February and April were also below normal). It would have to stay really warm to make it to 3rd hottest I think. Possible I guess, but unlikely since it will have to stay near record breaking on a monthly basis for the rest of the year.

In fact, so far this year is very slightly below normal in SLC at least because of January and February due to a very strong inversion (the mountains had either near normal or even slightly above normal temperature).

Maybe they meant 3rd hottest summer?

In Craig, I swear this year has been nothing but freezing and roasting this year. It was -40F in January and still dropping to zero in late April. In summer it's been in the 90's way more than normal.
