Anyone know snow levels in this area. I'm particularly interested in Texas Pass. Has anyone ever heard of it being clear this early in the year?

All I know is that in '03, which was a light snow year, the snow on Texas pass was unavoidable in August. Though it wasn't very steep and probably expedited our travel, it was still there.

How tough is the pass when there is snow there? Ice axes needed type of tough?

It's been so long since I've been over Texas pass. Like I said, I don't remember the snow being any problem. The pass it pretty flat near the top. The north side is steeper and the snow we encountered in '03 was on the south side. If there is still snow on the north side, I'd want an axe. It's only a few extra ounces for a great margin of safety this time if year.
A side note: Me thinks the winds maybe buggy in early July
I wonder if you call the Pinedale ranger station they might have an update for you.

Or the place where we always rent bear canisters, they seem to be in the know when I talked to them.
