I'm thinking about heading out to the Moroni slopes for some canyoneering. I know it's going to be hot, which is partially why I'm wondering about this. Has anyone been in the canyons of this area of the Swell lately? I'm curious about the amount of water in the canyons right now, if any. Thanks in advance, Mike

Here's my trip report from June 8 on Cable Canyon earlier this month:

If you don't know about candition.com, check there too for more recent conditions on several Swell canyons.

Also, you may try canyoncollective.com for trip reports.

Good luck! The San Rafael Swell is NOT the place I would wanna be canyoneering this time of year.

A buddy and I went through Cable for our first time last Saturday... I think the high was 95 for the day. Started hiking around 8, hit the canyon hoping for shade around 9:30 but its still another 30-45 minutes in full sun once you drop to the canyon floor.

One mandatory swim and a few waist deep pools. Very fun canyon and I can't wait to hit it again when it's full.

I would not recommend hitting it until it cools off or fills up, as the hike in/out is brutal in this heat. Biting flies down at the trailhead capped off the day.
