So another Maui climber wants to try his hand at canyoneering. This route is probably one of the longer routes. Definitely the coldest route as well. Water springs up from under ground.. seeps back into the earth, gets filtered, and comes back up clean.

The climber with us is a part of the Nature Conservancy here in Maui. his knowledge of plants are awesome. turns out Emerald is lush with lowland Hawaii plants. More than any area he's ever seen.

This particular canyon is quite the water park. Swim, rap, jump, swim, swim, jump, water slide, rap, swim, etc.. etc..

Though it was a long day, Matt's first canyon was a blast. It actually was an epic (in a good way), and epic (in a bad way). On the last rappel, he rapped down quite quickly on an overhang. He attempted to kick off the bottom rock, but slipped, and went under the rock. There, a hidden sharp rock sliced open his shin, through the wetsuit. He's quite the trooper. no complaints really. He just calmly said, "I think I'm hurt, and I need to get to a doctor"

The exit was only a 10 minute walk out. Luckily the wetsuit was fitted properly, as it actually held his cut til it stopped bleeding.

In the end, he received 10 staples and he definitely wants to go out again.
