Me and my kids, Thomas 17 and Alisa 15 have backpacked the Deseret Peak area twice this spring. Both trips were awsome and great starters for the season. We want to do another trip next weekend. We need somewhere fairly close to Salt Lake City, six to eight miles round trip, water to purify, and no snow. we are good for cold to 0 deg (prefer a little warmer). Dogs OK. Any Suggestions?

Mill Creek Canyon is open to dogs. Several of those hikes would be fine for a short backpack. Try Gobblers Knob via Bowman Fork, for example. Baker Spring is nice. There shouldn't be too much snow, if any.
Also, the western Uintas have plenty of possibilities. Yellowpine, for example should be snow free by now.

Thanks for the replies! We are looking at White Pine Lake near Logan. Can't seem to get a conditions report. Logan Ranger district never answers there phone. Is there water on Bowman Fork?

There is water at Baker Spring on the Bowman Fork Trail.

Also, it was a very easy/moderate trail and ascent up until you pass the ridge!

Well it looks like we are going to do the Lofty Lake Loop in the Uinta's:cool2: with a spur to Hayden Lake. Kamas Ranger Dist says trails are clear.
