If you are like me, when you are not in the outdoors hiking canyons, or climbing mountains, you are reading about it. When I was at the Salt Lake City library I happened to run across a thick book titled, Grand Obsession: Harvey Butchart and the exploration of Grand Canyon (http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Obsession-Harvey-Butchart-Exploration/dp/0970097344/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370876805&sr=1-2&keywords=Grand+Obsession) by authors, Butler and Myers.

It is part biography and part adventure story. Harvey Butchart pioneered many new rim-to-rim routes in the Grand Canyon when the canyon was not as popular as it is today. He started to explore the canyon in the 1940

Yeah, that's a great book. I fantasized about tagging along with him when all of that stuff he explored was more or less terra incognita. I've been kind of obsessed with the the Grand myself for the last 25 years, and have covered quite a few (but nowhere close to all) of his routes. Like he said, the Anasazi where everywhere.

Another outstanding book I recently finished is Endurance...Shackleton's Incredible Journey by Alfred Lansing.
