Dedicated to THANKING my Hero and Rescuers: Wilson Chang from Alhambra, Los Angeles County.
And the two TEAMs: Tina, Christie, Adrian, Kevin, Jason, Jamie, Stuart, Dan, Ninad.

Doctor really hoped I didn't have a hip fracture or broken bones and I didn't!!! :D I was extremely lucky my head did not smash the wall. I'm alive and recovering, grandma walking now with walking stick.

What happened? ----
- Was canyoneering on Spry Canyon, Zion Utah.
- 4th to last double rappel I traversed way too far from the rope, slipped and pendulum swung into one of the walls of the canyon reallyyyy hard.
- Became dead weight, couldn't walk.
- With 1/3 way left of the trail to go with 3 rappels left, the canyon was too narrow to have any helicopter rescue me.
:scared: We all went into survival mode...I butt slide down, crawled whatever I could. Wilson piggy backed me through BOULDERING DOWNCLIMBING 3 HOURS!! Then to the emergency room I went.

Injury: Severe contusion, hip pointer, and the usuals.[COLOR=#333333]
*Special thanks to Jason to make sure I didn

Dianna

Odd, if I am not bruised up like that at the end of a couple of days of canyoneering, I am usually disappointed. (Maybe that needs to get added to the list of things that are a sign that one is not the best canyoneer). Same rule applied to skiing: If I can walk after the drive home from the skiing, then I did not ski enough!

Sorry about the hip pointer. Feel better soon. Nice photos.

Wow:jaw-dropping: That is one hell of a bruise! How far do you think you swung?

I think your ex deserves one for old times sake :naughty: Glad you're OK...consider that it may have been far worse...a SAR would have sucked. Pendulum swings while rappelling are a no-no, so I suppose you'll do better next time, eh?

Oh daaaaamn, that's quite a bruise.
Glad it didn't end worse. Were you wearing a helmet?

Thanks all!! :)

Not sure how far I swung, probably around 15feet?

Haha I don't mind bruises, its the hip that sucks. No helmet.....but I will wear one in the future, and don't plan to traverse anymore unless I feel more than 120% safe to. I was definitely super lucky in not getting my head hit.

Can't think of where in Spry you would need to traverse far enough off fall line to swing into the wall that hard?

Need is a relative term:lol8:

I'm placing her at what I call the "sharkstooth" rap, it goes into a corridor, slide down a little ramp into the pool then the 80ish foot rap out the end of the corridor.

I'm guessing the traverse was a result of not wanting to get wet in the tiny pool at the bottom. If you rap within 5-6' of said pool it is very easy to traverse across and miss the pool. Trying the traverse at the top takes you WAY out of the fall line. Gravity won!!!

This rap in her pictures. The rock behind the rappeler is what I call the sharkstooth.

Dirk did Strike 2 in Capitol Reef last weekend and he's still using loofah sponge on his back, wrists and ass. Glad you are able to get back to normal.

Actually it was here:
And yes, I was actually trying to avoid the dirty pool below. I'm definitely diving into the pool next time, no questions asked lol

Accident Area: I traversed too far down the left.

Canyoneering = dirty pools, particularly when you're old and inflexible like me and have trouble traversing around them.

I remember that one in Spry two years ago.....it really stunk.....found out later it was a dead raccoon or some other critter like that.
