Took a trip to San Rafael but never posted a trip report. Went down there in September with a buddy of mine. The weather was nearly perfect. There was only a few spots in each of the canyons with water in them. We hiked Ding and Dang the first night. We camped near the trail head there. We awoke with a group that had around 10 dogs who were all fighting over a tennis ball. One dog ended up grabbing the other by the throat, not in a "I'm playing give me the ball," but as in "if I don't get the ball I am going to rip your throat out." The owners tried pulling the dogs apart and ended up kicking the one dog repeatedly as it would not let go.
After hiking Ding and Dang we set up camp closer to the entrance of the park, but still outside of it. We hiked Wildhorse canyon the next day, it did not disappoint either. We have plans on taking some other friends down there this year.
If you haven't tried the Mountain House Chicken Fajita Filling and Chicken Alfredo we thought they were great.
