We got tired of waiting for some good camping weather, so we took the bike out this weekend and chanced it. So Sunday night, we loaded the bags and the bike, and took off Monday morning (my weekend). Leaving the house, we weren't quite sure where we were going, I just told work I was going to the Bruneau Gorge area. The terrain is rough navigating, so we didn't cover as much ground as were were originally hoping, but the time ended up being perfect!
Starting off near the old gas stop at Grasmere, ID, we took off heading SE on Rowland Flat Road. We went about 11.5 miles, and turned left toward the Eastman Place Ranch. From here, we headed up the J-P Desert Plateau and over the other side where the scalding Indian Hot Springs flows onto the banks of the Bruneau River. The area made a perfect campsite with a grassy flat about 100 yards from the hot spring, and rested 15 feet from the river. The site was nice because it shielded us from the spectacular So. Idaho wind. That afternoon we explored some hiking trails to some caves and prospects, along with the old homestead. The next morning, we headed back up and across the J-P Desert and made our way to the Arendt and Roberson Homesteads located on a private ranch further down Rowland Flat Road. Of course we were respectful of their land and took only pictures. All in all, the trip was super awesome, and we ended up having some pretty decent weather!
