WALES — Want to experience a terrifying fall without having to actually live through it?

Thank goodness for GoPro cameras.

British mountain climber Mark Roberts was scaling something called Parsley Fern Lefthand Gully on Snowdon in north Wales, one of the U.K.'s highest peaks, when he was nailed by a chunk of falling ice.
Roberts lost his grip and tumbled more than 100 feet, bouncing off of rocks and ice like a pinball before finally coming to a stop.

"There was no feeling of panic, more a concerted effort to protect my head and neck and be aware of what was below me, where I was heading and what I could do to slow and stop myself before I got to the more serious rocky outcrops," Roberts told the British Mountaineering Council's website (http://www.thebmc.co.uk/helmetcam-slide-snowdonia-accident-llanberis-mountain-rescue).

His first reaction after he came to a halt? Check the camera despite a broken ankle and countless bruises.

"I was a little dazed but, critically, not unconscious," Roberts said. "Interestingly, I had the foresight to check the cam was still attached and just hoped the vid had recorded that: It wasn't one for repeating!"

Roberts was airlifted out of there by a mountain rescue team and was taken to a local hospital.

How's he doing now?

"Annoyingly immobile and bruised, but mentally fine," he said.

I know what he means. Injuries are nothing more than an obnoxious deterrent.
