So we ran a new route yesterday March 9 2013. Approach was relatively easy. Light bushwhacking and not quite the uphill battle as most. Got to overlook the canyon early on. Absolutely gorgeous view. Got into the canyon, and water levels were fun. I'd guess it was flowing at about 5-7 gallons a second? Maybe a little more. A few rappels eventually takes us into the main drainage where we were at the bottom of a big waterfall that was absolutely gorgeous. From the bottom, I'd say it was about 120ft.. and FLOWING. HUGE giant blue pool at the bottom. My guess is that it was flowing closer to 10 gallons per second. We ran the rest of the main stream with 2 more drops. Beautiful wide spread out waterfall.. about 50ft high. And another 60ft, where the water funnels into a narrow room. We had to make high water anchors.. as at this point, we were at about 25 gallons per second.
Anyways, i'm rambling.. great trip! I will post pics as soon as i get them from my buddy.. haha.
This canyon has also opened up access to 2 more un-run and canyons. More first descents on its way!
