Originally we we going to do Arch Canyon today. My wife's sister and cousin wanted to come go and it put is over our permit limit. Cherry has been on my to do list, so we changed plans and headed down to the gorge. We drove down past, turned around at Beaver Dam, and headed back north again, parking at the large turnout and the dike. The river was only about a foot deep and easy to cross, we wore our flip flops from the truck, crossed over, and stuck them in a bush as to keep shoes and socks dry.
As the canyon makes a hard bend back to the right, do not take the well defined trail climbing out of the main wash, wait until the next canyon to head up. We, along with a lot of people before us, have made a really good trail leading up the the wrong drainage. By the time you realize it, you have climbed an extra 400' of elevation that you must go back down. From the truck, it is an elevation change of 1327' to the drop in point. Overall the canyon exceded my expectations. Wall all had a great time. All natural anchors and readily available, we were a little cautious on a few of them, but isn't too bad. This was Danyale's first canyon and first time rappelling. She was a little hesitant rapping off a small bush for her first rap ever, but just as well break her in. We made it through with no problems or issues and had a great day in the Gorge. Definitely ranks high on my list of fun canyons. That could be influenced a little by the finally getting out a little more from the cold weather.
