This is pretty interesting to look at:

http://gunssavelives.net/incident-map/

The map pin-points where guns have been used in self defense to save lives. If you click the pin you can follow a link to a more detailed story of the incident.

You think you are ever going to stop a bad in in your life time? Get real. You 45x's more likely to shoot yourself, a family member, a neighbor or other innocent victim than ever stopping a bad guy! Which means you are more likely going to lose your house, your car, your retirement and future earnings form a wrongful death suit.

Do you have statics to back that up or are you just flapping your lips?

" Guns kept in the home for self-protection are 43 times more likely to kill a family member, friend or acquaintance than to kill an intruder, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine".

As an ER Doc friend of mine says..."Ever time I'm in a sports store near the gun section and hear a guy wanting to check out the hand guns that mental counter in my head clicks up one for another perspective organ donor."

And conversely, guns owned by intruders are 43x more likely to to kill a family member, or a friend of the family members, etc...

Well I normally wouldn't sport source stats because I think for my
Self. Like I tell my kids.. You all graduated at the least from high school and took enough math to understand statistical bias. Especially "funding bias" and "marketing bias" and as far as I know none of you believe the government is harboring space aliens in Area 51 or have such fragile egos that you need to show up at the capital sporting an AR 51 on your side at a protest rally lol
Do your own research ... Make your own informed decisions.
Just an observational phenomena ... An answer i already know why from an acquaintance who is a VP for a large bank...why is it banks like JP Morgan, Wellsfargo, and Bank of America no longer have armed guards at their main and branch banks?

Interesting..... you like to think for yourself, but you don't want the option to be able to defend yourself.

I guess I'm just different then you as I prefer the options of thinking for myself and defending myself if I so choose.

Just curious.... what are you going to do if the need to take action ever arises? What would you do if someone was raping your wife or daughter? Just watch? The reason I ask is law enforcement has already stated many timed they can't protect you. And the Supreme Court has stated law enforcement is not required to protect you.

So exactly what would you do? I don't know if you have ever had to deal with someone on meth, but they are not exactly what I'd call reasonable.

So, you get your statistics from a blog:roflol:

I love study's from 1(one) county, in 1(one) state in which close to 90% of said cases were suicide!!!!!

Got any REAL facts?

Would you like to mention the years the study was done? I can help you if you need....

By the way, if you do remove suicide from this antique writing, your said rate goes from .043 to .006

Are you aware that from the early 90's to current, most violent crime has dropped by over 50%!!

Now theres a fact you can use that is based off real analyses.

You obviously didn't read the article. How it frames the political discussion. Had you ..you could find all references..even to the data. Hell you might even be able to create your own bell shaped curve. I shouldn't be to hard on after all your high BMI might be getting in the way.

I read the "blog" article.

Will you reference the study that it mentions?

Post a link

Heres a quoite from "YOUR" study

"Mortality studies such as ours do not include cases in which burglars or intruders are wounded or frightened away by the use or display of a firearm. Cases in which would-be intruders may have purposely avoided a house known to be armed are also not identified…A complete determination of firearm risks versus benefits would require that these figures be known."

He references a blog--which references an invalid study--then calls names rather than provide facts....sounds familiar.

43% more likely is a myth, repeating it several million times, in no way makes it valid.

Paul, sorry to hear about your brother...what a horrible tragic accident.

I suggest you should get properly trained and arm yourself. It's amazing the peace of mind you'll feel when you pull into the next dark parking lot and you are ready to control the situation instead of being at the mercy of some drug crazed thug.

I'm off with a long conference call with the CDC as they continue to expand their requirements for healthcare measures. They might even have a facility at Area 51 lol.

Paul, just because you have a gun doesn't mean you have to use it. I just like to keep my options open.

As for your brother story, it has some real issues. The biggest being it is illegal for an 18 year old to own a pistol or purchase ammunition for it. It would be interesting to hear more as it is clear several state and federal laws were broken.

I would also like to hear more about the firearm, because it should not have discharged by dropping it on the hammer (unless it was a really old single action). Sounds like a winnable lawsuit against the firearm manufacture. Modern firearms do not just discharge from being dropped, they have a hammer block to prevent this type of accident.

I appreciate the thought.
Yes there was a fire arms expert hired. He was unable to get it to discharge form a drop and even beating it with a rubber hammer.
Yes there was a law suit.
Yes there was prosecutorial prerogative.
This is Az. 20+ years ago.
No more comment.

paul4887... You should not possess a gun for self defense. The rest of us fortunately have the right to choose.

Found 10 of these stories from last week alone.

So, don't own a gun, good for you. Your stories and/or targeted research will do nothing to change my mind. It's quite possible there are people out there that do not respect firearms and failed to be trained correctly or receive no training at all. When deciding to own a weapon for home defense, education must follow. Educating the loved ones in the house and some type of defensive shooting classes for the persons that will be handling it.

Pretty interesting show...

I never said I don't own a gun. At age 13 I took the NRA gun safety course. Owned deer rifles and shot guns for duck hunting. Deer hunting in Utah became less and less of a desirable sport given the invasion of the A

No idea what you have in mind. Usually when someone keeps on going with their negative points to something that most have looked at positively, you do begin to wonder where one is going with this.

Gun Owners:

"You don't own a gun? OK that's cool"

Anti Gun Owners:

"You have a gun? What, are you stupid?"
"Gun owners are more likely to:
kill themselves
kill everybody in the room
be fat
have small penises
be compensating for something
be stupid
be knuckle draggers
have extreme anger issues
be Rambo
