Every year I tell you guys this is the best thing happening in June! The Burley Boat Races (Idaho Regatta) are really a lot of fun the entire family can enjoy.
The event is held on the Snake River at the Burley Golf Course so you can sit on the grass and enjoy the show.
June 21-23, 2013
The Burley Bestwestern is my favorite place to stay.

They also open up one of the local parks to camping for those on a budget.
It is one of the best events of the year!!!

thanks for the tip
I haven't seen you post much on climbing before, but whether or not you climb you should swing by City of Rocks anyway since you will be pretty close on your way up or down. Worth the side trip just to see the place.

These boats make the boats my Dad raced look like dinosaurs. Here is a blast from the past of him after winning in Knoxville TN (1955) (That twinkle in his eye is me.....I wasn't born yet!) :haha: Wish I could find a photo of the type of boat since it doesn't show up well in this photo. We've got old 8mm film that shows some footage of the actual racing.

National Champ, that is awesome. :2thumbs:
They have an outboard hydro class at Burley.
If you like old school you will love the Crackerbox class.

The rules on the class have not changed since prohibition in the 30's. The boats were orginally built as rum runners. They would cross the great lakes to Canada, load the boats with booze and haul ass back to the U.S. out running the coast guard. They were the northern version of the southern moonshine runner.
Anyhoo..... the race is only two weeks away and I can't wait.

Savanna, here are some outboard Hydros, do these look like what your father used to race? They race these in Burley, I believe the engines are limited to 15hp.

Pretty close. I found an exact photo of what he used to race. It's not him or his boat in this photo, but it's the type of boat he drove. Apparently they used to race "illegally" on the rivers and lakes and finally formed an official club so they could continue doing the same things that they always had been, but it became legitimate. :2thumbs:

Yup... the picture above is the same boats 60 years later. The big difference is the new boats have better designed sponsons that give more lift with reduced drag. The engine rules are still the same, but with modern metallurgy they can turn a lot more rpm.
There are a lot of different engine classes.
