View Full Version : Anti-Gun Celebrities as Hypocrites
Contains 1 f-word at the end.
It's food for thought, nonetheless, no matter where you stand.

Hypocrites: Media, Politicians and Actors..
Say one thing, do another. Its good for them, but not for you/us. Taxes? They'll evade, but we can't. Obamacare? They aren't impacted..

Hmmmm... not sure i understand the argument here.
So if I'm an actor, and my "character" shoots a gun, I can't demand for stricter gun control in real life?
So if I'm an actor, and my "character" murders someone, I can't demand people don't get murdered in real life?
It was kinda vague just watching snippets so not sure what the message actually was.... but I don't see it as hypocritical to say "I play a murderer on TV, but am against murder in real life" or drugs or guns or rape or theft or whatever. Movies are movies and real life is real life. Not sure how this argument is even valid on any level? Elaborate.... Saying an actor who uses guns or murders is automatically pro murder or guns in real life makes zero sense to me.
Honestly I think the biggest "promoters" and perpetrators of these types of disasters are the media like Fox news. Playing this crap 24/7 and making these evil people like gods and worshiping them. Only a matter of time before the next sicko wants to go out with a bang and be remembered in this fashion or do something worse and "one up" the last sick f-er. If we really wanted to enact a better future it would be to limit the amount of coverage media sources can bombard us with. That would be way more effective than any gun control measure IMO.

Usually, DC, I'm pretty much in line with what you say, but in this case, I see things differently...
It's not just FOX News, go over to MSNBC or CNN and they're all over it too. It seems to me that it's the stinking politicians that fuel the fire, a different one coming out every day about banning this or that or even "confiscation"---the governor of New York.
If it weren't for them, and all their threats of legislation, I think FOX, in particular, would move on to other news items...the liberals of course, would still beat it into the ground.
And those actors are hypocrites, nothing more than suck ups and whores. Alec Baldwin said so himself, years ago...before he realized that to get rich, he'd better get on his knees.

Agreed! ya I meant all media sources, Fox was the only name that came to mind.
Here's the way I see it DC...
Everyone (on both sides of gun control) are for LESS violence. The way we achieve that is a different story.
Here's the point - if you are trying to sell me/convince me that Dr. Pepper is the greatest, I better not see you drinking a Sprite then. I know I know...Bad analogy, but it makes my point.
If you are for "enough" guns then the actors/actresses can say NO to playing those parts. Sure you can say but they signed the "contract" and that's what they are obligated to do. I disagree - they could of said NO regardless of contracts, etc. but they didn't.
I think what they are trying to say is "less violence". And the whole point of the message was summed up at the end - the culture of violence. Hollywood IS the culture of violence.

I agree with jman.
If there is video of you being violent, shooting and killing people then you probably aren't the person to be advocating for less violence.
It is like the 80s PSA about parents who use drugs have kids who use drugs:

Now I can separate the TVs and Movies from real life, and I recognize that with the exception of OJ Simpson and a few others none of the people we see in violence in the media are actually killers. But I do believe that such violence is desensitizing, so I don't allow my kids to watch such material. I believe a lot of the problems we have with these types of situations come more from our family problems than gun laws. So instead of making your PSA about gun violence (something about which you have furthered your own career), I would say it is preferable to make a video about the importance of spending time with your family / children, watching for the signs of bullying, depression, behavior problems and reinforcing your children with increased love in the home.
