Oh I just couldn't wait for a few more days until Christmas.

Then again let's just say this isn't for Christmas, this is just a Friday gift!

Grab one now!

My GoPro Hero3 Black Edition arrived straight from GoPro today. All geeked out, had to snap a few shots.

I am super jealous friend. Do me a favor, and live an extra exciting life for me and record it all.

OK so I took it with us down to Temple Square just to test the low light performance. I saw a huge improvement, where I would usually see grainy footage it managed to come out pretty clear.

I filmed in 1080 at 60 frames per second

Here are a few frames FROM VIDEO, not photos. But since I usually grab stills from the video for most of my shots, it's a good test.

Again I'm using VLC to grab the frames. You can see that each frame is close to 3MB in size so it's pretty good quality for stills from a video. Plus they are 1920 X 1080.

Here's the test footage in low light. I had the camera in the waterproof case the whole time. For me, I'm satisfied with the audio through the case since I'm usually putting an audio track over my videos anyways.

But if you'd like better audio, go with the "dry" case with open slots, or just bring the camera naked without any case.

If you have an older GoPro camera and case, the same back to the case will fit the newer version, even between GoPro generations 1 and 3.

I do like some kind of case though when I want to put it in my pocket to protect the lens.

This was filmed in 1080 at 60 frames per second

And the fun just doesn't stop. Here's the awesome GoPro app at work. Great for getting the live view and having control over your camera from your phone even if you are out of physical reach.

My Christmas gift was being able to buy whatever video camera I want (within reason) and I intend to buy a GoPro. I checked out their website today and I see they are "out of stock" on Amazon. Where is the best place to buy a Go Pro Hero 3?

I looked online at a bunch of retailers and all I could find was the Silver edition, so I just bit the bullet and bought it straight from http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-black-edition

I've noticed the short battery life that has been mentioned. I don't want to buy a battery bacpac because I already love the minimal weight of the Hero3 so I'm just going to snag extra batteries.

This is a pretty good deal right here, the specs exceed GoPro factory batteries:

Last night I ordered the following:

GoPro Hero 3 black (http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-black-edition)
Helmet Mount (http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/helmet-front-mount),
Chest Mount (http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/chest-mount-harness)
Headstrap (http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/head-strap-mount),
64gb Class 10 Microsd Card (http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A/dp/B009QZH6JS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1356528775&sr=8-6&keywords=class+10+micro+sd+card+64gb),
Battery Bacpac (http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/hero3-battery-bacpac).
Xshot XSP1: Pocket Extendable Hand Held Monopod (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031R2WQO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00)

I don't usually like 3rd party batteries but those reviews are good, and the price is right so I am going to give that a try.

I am headed to Disneyland in 3 weeks, and then going on a week long cruise. Due to my wife being pregnant I don't plan on diving on the cruise unless I can get one of my brothers to go with me. So I don't think I need the dive housing yet. I would like to get the handlebar bike mount. Are there any must have accessories you guys recommend?

How do you watch your video? I usually stream all of my movies from my computer to my PS3. I find that the PS3 doesn't stream anything more than 480p very well. Have you tried streaming your gopro video at 1080p by chance? If not, how do you usually watch your videos? Just on the computer, or streaming, or do you just burn discs?

I've got a PC with an HDMI cable connected to my 55" TV, this is where I usually watch and edit the raw stuff. Otherwise I'm throwing most of it on YouTube or on private family facebook groups.

I found one of these under my tree as well. The only place I could find the Black was @ Best Buy.

Amazing low light performance from the Gopro for sure. I still have the previous model which works just fine for me, but I am liking the size and features of the newer model for sure. Thanks for posting the info!

Sombeech I clicked on the amazon link in this post and saw some bad reviews on the H3 Black. have you had problems?

What kind of bad reviews? The battery life is all i can think of and I snagged two wasabi brand batteries and a charger for under $30.

Other than that I've been very happy with it and filming almost every week.

The frame rate, the wifi remote, the smaller size, better low light quality, sharper lens, and easier to use functions have me sold on it. I've got absolutely no regrets :)

Wow you're right, a lot of bad reviews!

You know, now that i think of it, once in a while when powering on, the camera will freeze as discussed. I have to pull the battery out and snap it back in. That can get annoying especially while snowboarding. The last thing you want in below freezing temps is to open the case, risk dropping something in the snow, and get frozen fog inside the case for blurry footage.

Aside from the freezing once in a while, the footage and specs of the camera are fantastic. Hopefully a firmware update can fix this soon.

Today at the fly tying expo here in Idaho Fall I went to a presentation on making GoPro fly fishing vids. A rep from SRP (http://www.snakeriverprototyping.com/products.html) was there showing aftermarket GoPro adapter gadgets and i asked him about the freeze up issue. He told me that the firmware update should take care of it but that if it happens one has to push two buttons simultaneously, giving it a hard reboot and should then upgrade the firmware.

Ah, interesting. I'll have to try the two buttons, sounds much easier than opening the case and pulling the battery out. Thanks
