I keep my pistol grip, short-barreled Mossberg 500, loaded with Winchester 3", 00 Buck (15 pellet), Double-X Magnum Loads.

The idea behind birdshot is pellets don't blow through walls and kill the kids or old lady in the next room.

Each pellet of 00 packs the same punch as a .38 and sheetrock doesn't slow it down.

Better than using my .45 or .40, from my perspective. I have three rooms and a bathroom between my bedroom and the kids. No actively used bedroom on the lower floors, so If somebody breaks in, and I catch them downstairs, I replace sheetrock, but the perp. will be deceased.

Mossberg Persuader. Birdshot at home and alternating 00 and slugs when I'm in grizzly country. ;)

Which shotgun do I prefer? That would be my Mossberg 590.

I can't think of a spot in my house where I'd encounter another person in a "situation" where I'd be more than about 5 or 10 feet away from them. I think with shot, distance is the key thing to consider.

I'll stick to my 00 Buck. Great URL/Article Brian in SLC!
