While visiting Factory Butte a few months ago for a video shoot, I took a panorama of the butte at sunrise that turned out fantastic.

It's rare to see the sun, and be able to also see the shadows it is casting 180 degrees the other direction in a single photo. This is actually about 240 degrees stitched together from five photos. I really like how those little strips of cloud created a perfect window of light that hit the butte but left the terrain around it in shadow. The shadow cast by the butte across the landscape is also nicely framed by the clouds.

The blip of mountains in the background is the Henries. I love the dunes off to the right of the butte.

There are already lots of great entries! Here's my favorite from this year - A Datura (jimsonweed) bloom after a monsoon rain. I took the photo in the desert near Tucson. There was dark shade behind the bloom which helped it stand out. Datura is one of my favorite desert plants because if I see one it means I am hiking/exploring a desert canyon somewhere... :naughty:
