Also - I think I'm going to want to get some neoprene gloves for this one. I've never used them before; anyone got any suggestions?

I bought some (titanium?) coated neoprene gloves from Sids a while back for my wife and I. We LOVE them and I think they were only a few dollars more than the std neo gloves. The coating has great grip on the rope and seems to have held up well enough (very little wear) to justify continuing to rap with them. Whether they would hold up to constant sandstone friction is another question, but we're just rap-n-swim kiddie canyoneers so they serve our needs well =)
A quick search on the interweb didn't turn up anything, but I'll see if they have a tag or anything--I believe they were NRS?

Austin,
Get your gloves from a dive shop man, the kind with the leather palms are durable and safe to rap with. I think they are about $30-$35 a pair.

Gotta be careful that they both have good friction and ALSO do not interfere with your ability to grasp the rope. Thin gloves tend to be better

I have been using the Deep Sea 2mm Waterfall gloves for cold water at $14.99. They worked well for me in Imlay and Kolob last month and give plenty of flex to feel and handle the rope. They are leather palmed and hold up okay for the colder canyons. After a week in the canyons, they will tend to give way at the seams. In order to extend the life, I tried to use the dipped garden gloves on top and that worked out okay.

I did imlay on Saturday (see my trip report). It was flowing but I'm sure that didn't last more than a day or 2 after the rain. This time of year though, I don't think the canyon will dry out very fast. All the anchors were usable, not necessarily ideal, but usable. We did it in 5mm suits and 3mm socks. the only time we got cold was if we stopped moving. keep a decent pace and youll be fine. I had sealskinz gloves and was very glad I did. My GF had the neo gloves from ZAC. They are actually a decent glove. Be sure to seam grip the seams to extend the life. The good thing about imlay is that the raps are short and your ropes stay pretty clean with this much water so the raps aren't super hard on gloves. I actually carried a leather glove just in case. Have fun.

On Saturday I started with neo gloves and 7mm suit. Not far into it I was overheating and switched to my atlas gloves and unzippe my suit for the rest of the day. 4-5mm suits I think are sufficient. We replace one set of webbing and there are a couple more getting close to needing it
