Apple on Tuesday announced a special event to be held on October 23, 2012 in San Jose. The event is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am PT.
Unlike other recent events that have been held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Apple will hold this event at the California Theatre in San Jose .
It is widely expected that Apple will use this event to unveil a smaller form-factor iPad.

In other words.... they are getting hammered by kindle and nexus and are trying to stick a finger in the dick.

Well actually the iPad accounts for around 90% of tablet sales.

You must be getting your news from apple fanboi. According to Forbes android tablets now own 35% of the tablet market. Kindle alone now owns 22% of the market. Which to me is a big chuck considering kindle owned zero percent 9 months ago.

The other item of concern to apple is their share of the market is continuing to shrink.

Well 90% was a few months ago. Give it a few more months and it'll be back near 90%.

I know for my part I'm buying a tablet for Christmas. After some fairly extensive research I'm almost positive I'm getting the Nexus 7. I've used the Ipad quite a bit and it's a bit big and heavy for me. I think for pure media consumption (browsing the internet on the couch, watching netflix in bed, etc..) the Nexus is a good compromise of price, weight, and size. I went and looked at the Nexus and it's nice. I've played with the Kindle Fire HD quite a bit as well and it's no surprise to me that Apple is releasing a 7" ipad.

I've also got an eye out for this new Surface tablet. Looks promising. I just hope there are some good deals around the holidays!
