I'm headed down to Zion National Park in Mid-October and have managed to convince my family to backpack for one night while we are there (some of them anyway). No one is too keep on the Narrows. Any other suggestions for a single night trip while we are there? I'll have two high-school-aged children with me. They're not the constraint, however, it's probably me.

My list would be excluding the Narrows
#1-West Rim Trail
#2- La Verkin Creek Trail (make sure you go to Kolob Arch and Beartrap Falls)
#3- Back country on East Rim (somewhere between Cable Mountain and Deer Trap Mountain)

I assume you know The Narrows was rated one of National Geographic's top 10 classic hikes?
So why is it not on the list?

I agree that the Narrows are awesome. Each time I've done this trip, my kid/s have joined me. I have pictures here on Bogley. The key to a successful trip is great footwear (rent the shoes from ZAC), good hiking poles, and awesome snacks/food.

I just got back from Zion and spent a night in the Wildcat Canyon. We got the idea from the backcountry desk. We got the permit and took off the same day after driving up Kolob Terrace Rd. to the Wildcat Canyon trailhead. We stealth camped (free and legal) in a spot that had been used before (cigarette butts were left behind...yuck).
