It's a stupid mindless craze. It is beyond me how brain-rot like this gets so many views. It speaks volumes of the atrophying state of our culture's minds and perception of talent or art.

On another online forum I read, a thread with essentially this exact title showed up in a group I subscribe to. I'd never heard of "Gangnam style", so I clicked on it.

Watched the video for about 20 sec, thought it was the most mindless, stupid and pointless thing I'd seen, and didn't waste any more time on that thread. Japanese, I'm guessing? That explains everything.

The Japanese have it going on in terms of their ability to produce electronics, cameras, cars, etc. of unparalleled quality, but when it comes to contemporary social culture, they are the dweebs and dorks of the world. These videos are proof of that.

Ah, Korean was my second guess; they are in the same category (except their cars suck and they aren't nearly as dominant as the Japanese are in the electronics industry).

It's Korean and it's satire. Making fun of people who want so badly to be part of the new rich folks living in the trendy sections of Seoul (south of the river is Gang - nam). For example, at the start you assume he's at the beach, but he's really in a sandy playground in the highrises in Seoul, because he can't really afford to vacation at the beach. He can't really afford to go horseback riding, but he can ride a pretend horse. Koreans love this video because of the satire, but I don't think much of the sarcasm translates well.
