First of all, I want to again express my appreciation for this outdoor forum. If it were not for Bogley and the info I was given by fellow Bogleyites, I know I would not have enjoyed the success that I was blessed with on this hunt.

Anyways the hunt was wonderful, we seen lots of elk. Sunday night we called this bruiser in to an adjoining canyon, as the light was failing my brother Troy and myself had to go on the offensive that involve a 150 yard sprint while crouching, I was able to set up for the shot and the rest is history. A DWR officer scored the bull at 384.75 but actually it is closer 380. The hunt was truly a dream come true. I'm quite buried right now but more pics and the rest of the story will come.

My friend got a 378 yrs ago and I could not believe how big it was in person. I think your picture must not be doing this justice as 380 is giga-big.

Very nice mass, and that is actually considered a point though only 1.5 inches long, he has another 1 like it on his other antler on g4. I am terrible at field scoring I actually thought this bowl with only score 345 when I decided to shoot him. the main reason I decided to take him is that my brother and father were present, my dad does not get around well anymore, and it was more important to me to have that memory then to shoot something bigger alone. but walking up on it I could see he was a lot bigger than I thought he was, his giant swords and mass made his 3's and 5's look small, when actually they were decent length times. it also didn't hurt that he was 52 inches long by 48 inches wide. I've heard of ground shrinkage but it's a rare case to experience ground growth walking up on your animals:nod:

For that rack, he looks a bit small bodied, which adds to his impressiveness. Crazy. How much meat did you get off him?

He dressed out at 427 lbs skinned. Which the butcher shop said was one of the bigger ones they've ever got in. His body is laying in a gully, which does affect the view of the body.

Yeah, I guess it's kind of an illusion.
I've seen a 7x7 that scored ~ 380 in person, and I remember just being dumbfounded at the size and dimensions of the rack. Well done.

Wow, what a nice bull. :2thumbs:

And a DIY to boot, that's sweet.

Surprised you didn't have Mossback and his henchmen breathing down your neck. I'd heard he's been working that unit pretty well. :haha: (Sorry if your are a fan of Mossback)

I hope the meat is okay, being the rut, he had pissed all over himself, I was dry-heaving the whole time gutting him. And we'll put something together. Like an organic barbeque or something:lol8:

By the way thanks everyone for your generous comments.

And you were able to back your truck up to and slid it in the tailgate. Hunts don't get much better than that. Of course, I'm still a fan of packing them out on the horses/mules. Just adds to the experience.
