good article
good to see another ars technica fan! Yeah, this article is spot on. I work for a Fortune 500 company here in SLC in IT with over 4000 employees, and we get to see a lot of the employee's passwords, which are pretty pathetic!! No wonder they are able to crack em easily these days. You'd be amazed at how many people still right their passwords on sticky notes, and leave them on their monitors, keyboards, etc. Just to mention a FEW of MANY no-nos.
A side-note the funniest and most disgusting password I've come across at the company was "seatsniffer!02". :haha:

This is a frightening idea:
A PC running a single AMD Radeon HD7970 (http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Radeon-GDDR5-Graphics-7970PE53G/dp/B006UACSZ4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337125724&sr=8-2)
GPU, for instance, can try on average an astounding 8.2 billion password combinations each second, depending on the algorithm used to scramble them.
Interestingly enough, I was just listening to a story about DefCon kids. I can't imagine what these young kids growing up in the age of such radically changing technology are going to do to digital security (on both sides of the spectrum).

Have you guys tried any of the password generators and vaults they mentioned at the end of the article? I am slowly increasing my digital security as I a acquire more resources and devices (still way behind the curve).
Any feedback about options?

As always, XKCD has covered this brilliantly:
