Hey all. I serve as committee chair for the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Resource Advisory Committee. This is a volunteer committee appointed by the US Secretary of Agriculture. We look at proposals submitted by committee members, the general public and UWC USFS Ranger Districts within the state. We have a set amount of funds available to fund projects and help decide and prioritize the proposals. This has been a 2-year commitment and we just got approval/funds for a third year. A few committee member openings have become available for the coming year. Here's the official announcement if you'd like to apply:

South Jordan, Utah,August 17, 2012 – Candidates are needed for the Uinta-Wasatch-CacheNational Forest Resource Advisory Committee under the recently reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (Public Law 112-141). The committee is chartered by the U.S.Department of Agriculture under the Federal Advisory Committee Actand consists of 15 members representing a wide array of interests. The committee has vacancies for members to represent the following interests:




Archaeological and historical
Wildlife/hunting/watershed organizations
School officials or teachers
Energy and mineral development



Other categories already represented on the committee include environmental, recreational, and local governmental interests. Committee members review and make recommendations concerning projects proposals on or benefitting the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest funded under Title II of the Act. In 2012, the committee expects to make recommendations concerning projects in Cache County, Wasatch County, Utah County, and Juab County.

Project proposals are also being accepted for Title II funding. Title II projects fundwork such as restoring watersheds, removing invasive weeds, enhancing recreation sites, and maintain roads and trails. The funds are made available by counties which receive federal funding based on the percentage of land in federal ownership, timber receipt payments, and per capita income.
