I went to Cabin Lake in the Uintas over this past weekend. Most people get there from Rudolph Lake via a pass to the South West of the lakes. That route takes 1.5 hours. Just wanted to let people know, that taking the drainage to the South West of Cabin Lake is not a good idea. It looks like a nice short cut to Cabin Lake if you are coming from the Rock Creek Trailhead. However, the drainage is filled with lots of down timber. It took us 3 hard hours to move up that drainage. It was so bad that we took the trail to the East of Rudolph back to Rock Creek rather than brave the drainage again. Taking the trail back took us 5 hours.

Cabin Lake has some nice 12 inch Brooks in it, so it was worth the pain of the hike.

Thanks for posting. I almost took this "shortcut" up to Cabin last time I was in the Rock Creek Drainage. Instead, we ventured east and up some different steep slopes (but probably not as bad as yours) to Docs Lake. Fun Stuff.
