Rode A.F. last night, have any of you rode 038? It is on the east side if you follow it around far enough you eventually end up at Alta. We did not make it up to Alta due to dark but the rest of it is the most insane technical single track I have ever rode. If you haven't ridden it I would highly reccomend if you want to have your life pass before your eyes on multiple occassions. We ran into 3 guys who ride it on a regular basis, they rode it like they were going down the asphalt. Never seen such talent. We went counter clockwise the guys we met say they have rode it clockwise. I don't think I could do it. I would not be able to carry enough speed to get up some of the insane root and vertical single track areas. Sorry no pics.

We need to try it...

We have ridden to this fork from the bottom two times this year. We usually stop here to catch our breath after coming up all the loose boulders on the hill climb. It gets a little tricky in spots. If you take the right here, it goes up the side of the mountain and looks a bit knarly. We have gone straight here and over to forest lake or down to holman flat. It sounds like we need to try the ole 038. :ride:

I fell over right there rolling back to go right. That rocky stretch getting to that sign sucks. If you want to take it up about 10 levels go right and go all the way to Alta. The trail is only 6 inches wide at it's widest spot. We were headed to Forest when are new buddies talked us into going to Alta. When we go again we are going to come up from Forest Lake to save energy for what is ahead. Can't go for a week, headed to Powell on Sunday, when we go again I'll invite all that want to go.

Ordered a left hand rear brake from recluse today. The switch backs are brutal.

I rode a bit of the 038 last night. I went down the steep switchbacks for a while, but turned around because it was getting dark. I took this photo at the first overlook. I need to follow that trail. I wasn't sure where it would spit me out. When I turned around it was headed down the hill toward Jordanelle. I need to look at a map...

How far past the ugly switchbacks did you go? Were they the really loose dirt ones? Did you come to an intersection with a trail sign? It is a well marked intersection. If you go right (down hill) at the intersection that will take you down towards Deer Creek. I think that is Deer Creek in your picture. It drops you out on a dirt road. The intersection is quite a ways from the switch backs. If you go straight at the intersection, which is the way 38 goes it will drop you out on the main road going to Midway or back down A.F. Canyon. If you go straight across the main road (between two wood poles) the trail continues onto Alta. There are a few switch backs on that section that are insane. If you can ride those you are one bad dude.

I would love to go up and ride it again but have to let my shoulder heal.

I didn't go that far. I got halfway down the switchbacks and decided to turn around since it was getting dark, I was alone and I didn't have a clue where the trails went. I will be back though! I would love to try the Alta section. :naughty:
