K Scott this is where it's at seems you have one and I need to know more real fast.
THe cell is not buying me the security that I need to keep up with the home front.
To many bald spots with no reception at all.
So are they as good as I may hope for and are they worth it and the costs please.
I know it's not a phone but I need to have the folks at home rest a bit better with knowing that it works spot on.

It works great for me as a tracking device and also in case of emergency. Well worth the money IMO. I have actually been watching two different friends make their way to Prudhoe Bay, AK right now and it is really fun. One party is on their way back and another on their way. You can track on computer or I also have an iPhone app that lets me track friends. I've got 5-6 friends with them and its fun to see what they are up to and nice for family back home too.

I have a chance to pick up a used spot 1 for sixty. Are they good enough or should I hold out for a spot 2?

Well I went for it.
Just need a ton of Litho batteries and to activate it.

As I understand it, the SPOT2 is not as good as the original (larger) device. As such, I've kept my original SPOT in lieue of the SPOT2.
Here's my SPOT shared page.

Well I want for it, I think this provides a good security to your bike and you get a rid from the tension which you get when you bike is at stand.
