Had to attend a conference in Tooele last week so I thought I would take the 4 wheelers along to see what is up there in the mountains above Stockton Utah. It was a great trip. The weather was perfect and it was a Monday so there was not going to be much traffic and dust. Jacob city is an old mining town that has long gone. The trails are good and the country was beautiful.

Looks like a great trip. Some massive elevation gain too. Those switchbacks look killer.
Thanks for the report.

It's a nice ride, but there are more trails to explore. You can drop down into Ophir Canyon or cut around the back and exit Soldier Canyon in Stockton (cool school bus way back there).

Make this trip once every year to pick up any new geocaches on the area.

I'm heading there today. Need to test out the maint. on my old 2005 BF 750. Still a few GC's I haven't tagged up there.

My oldest son and I just returned from completing a full loop from Jacob City to Soldier Canyon. Once you pass the bus at the top, it's a STEEP and ROCKY downhill all the way to the canyon floor. My son's Honda Rancher brakes gave out about half-way down and he smashed into the back of my BF750 and that's how we rode the rest of the way down. My machine doing the braking and his front-end right up against my rear rack. :crazycobasa:

Sounds like you had a crazy time getting down, I would like to make the loop you did next time I go out there. Is it better to go up Soldier or down it ? Spoke to another rider and he had just made the loop and said it was really rough.
Also at the top by the cabin we went down the road to a log that has fallen across the trail. Did that trail go all the way down to Soldier canyon?Looks like a fun trail to go down but would take a big chain saw and lots of guys to clear the trail.

You can bypass the log (there's a small trail just to the LEFT of it) that lets you finish the loop. I think going up Jacob City and down Solider would be a better ride. Rock crawling all the way uphill is probably harder on your machine than going downhill.

Ok I saw that trail and went around it but farther down the trail there is a huge log. That is the one that would take lots of guys and a big chain saw. The trail continues on but it looks like now one has been down it for a long time. ther are more logs across the trail i am sure. I forgot to get a photo. Next time I will

It continues down, but my son and I were probably the only folks to try it..
