View Full Version : Need a spot near Mt.Carmel Jnct this weekend.
I have to drive to Mt Carmel Junction Friday to meet with a customer and measure her home for flooring. I would love to turn the trip into an easy over night backpacking trip with my kids so it should be short and easy to access. I would also prefer it to be wooded so that I can hammock camp. Any ideas?

Red Cave? Hmm. That is a fun little canyon for kids. This weekend? I hope you like HOT. Looks like the temps will get up there.
Hot is all relative man, I live in St George so it's gotta be cooler than here.

:haha: That is true. I like the heat but you being from St. George, you have to embrace it!

Do you have a 4WD? If so, like Scott says Red Cave is AWESOME, but there are some hurddles to pass to get out there - a private property issue.

You could do East Rim in Zion. That's a nice backpack for kids.

A fun one is to travel through the Grand Staircase starting at Glendale. Check out Bull Valley Gorge, Willis Creek and maybe Lick Wash then continue on the road and end up near Bryce.

Listen to Tanya. This is HER backyard. Girl knows her stuff!:stud:
Yeah, I follow her and Bo's page on FB and enjoy all the info that comes from it. I looked at quite a few of those links but I'm hoping to be closer to Mt Carmel. I read a thread the other day about The Barracks and that looks like a real neat hike, maybe just do an In and Out for the night. Also the Cable Mountain hike looks like fun but maybe a bit much for the kids.

You could also check out some of the stuff at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. There are some cool pictographs in there.
You could explore the Elephant Butte Entrance/Exit on the Pweap hike too - do an in and out on that.

That one sounds like fun Tanya. Is there enough large trees close enough to each other to hang our hammocks? I was planning to come back through the Cane Beds anyway so this would be a fun trip. Also, is the dirt road wide enough for my F350 crew cab?
