I haven't done the full ice cave for over two years, I have been out of the loop of recreation while living in Texas on an LDS mission. I have heard the cave was closed due to white nose fever. Is this still the case or has this closure been lifted?

The cave is currently open, at least politically. I haven't heard any reports yet this season about the infamous ice plug. The WNS closure was lifted about 18 months ago. Let's hope it stays open. Region 1 USFS (Northern Idaho and Montana) is threatening to close their caves soon. Hopefully Region 4 will continue to remain reasonable on WNS access.

Awesome, thanks for th update. For the future, how do I go about finding closures?

Good luck with getting an answer. We asked everyone on the planet if the cave was open last year and never received the same answer twice.

I am experiencing the same. If your wanting to give it a go this year Shane, assuming it is open, I'm a close drive to get there. I would gladly bring dinner and meet you up there

Well if you do ever find yourself in these parts, excluding the cave, the offer of dinner is still on the table

I did a little mroe research - not to doubt you, canyoncaver - but just to double check. I spoke with a district ranger of the teton basin district and the cave is open for caving. The ice plug closure may still be in force for a while longer.

I'm sure that local grottos (caving groups) will be able to tell you about cave closures. If you go to nssio.org/Find_Grotto and click on your state, it'll show a list of grottos with links to contact information. Sorry the link doesn't work; I'm a newbie on Bogley and it won't let me add links quite yet... :/

Might need to take that back now, Gandalf.
