A Democrat politician was out stumping and passed through a small town in Utah on his route. He spotted a small grocery and decided a cold drink was in order, and he might pick up a few votes as well. As he walked in the front door, he noticed a small lad sitting next to a cardboard box full of puppies and a sign which said "Democrat puppies - $5.00". The politician thought to himself that this was a good sign, and that he would surely pick up a few votes in this podunk village, so he worked it a little, made a few promises he knew he couldn't keep, and moved on to the next bigger city. A week later on his way back home, as he was passing back through the same small town he saw the same store and thought he'd check in to see if he'd made an impression on the folks. As he entered he saw the same boy, still selling puppies (he was down to only a few now) but the sign now said "Republican puppies". The politician stopped and asked if those were the same puppies he was selling. The boy replied "yep". The politician said "But last week they were Democrat puppies!" The boy replied "Yeah, but now they got their eyes open, and they're sellin' like hotcakes".
