After 16 years of failure to draw, I have finally drawn a limited entry bull elk tag for Utah. I know this because I was dinged 280.00 on my debit card by the DWR. The hunt is for the early rifle season on the Plateau Boulder unit in South Central Utah. I also drew my dedicated hunter mule deer tag for the same area, which means bow hunting deer and scouting for elk at the same time. I should carry such luck to Wendover this evening, but since I was finally in the top tier of Bonus Points this season, I guess you could say I earned it. Hopefully I am looking forward to bulls like the pics showed here, which would all qualify as participants in Utah's Boone and Crocket record book.

I know a lot of Bogleyites frequent Boulder, and HWY 12 any pics and siting info of titanic bulls would be greatly appreciated.

Gosh that would suck if you don't get one. 16 years is a long time to wait for something like that. Good luck man.

Took me 16 years to draw a LE Tag for that same unit. I spent a lot of days down hunting, Had the opportunity to shoot 22 bulls that were all 6 points, But passed on them looking for my trophy. I finally found the 400 class bull I was looking for at over a 1000 yards. Worked hard to close the gap down to 500 yards and lost the bull.

It was still a great experience hunting during the rut, Seeing large bulls bugle, clash horns, charge into the call. I could have shot a lot of 330-340 class bulls. Just was holding out for that one special one.

Most of the time when a bull was in close, I had my rifle out. But this little six point was small enough that I put the gun away and was just watching him. He original came up to the stream to drink 10 foot away from me. Was standing right next to the green spruce in the photo, Until I turned my camera on and it went Beep Beep

The Boulder Unit is a truely awsome area to hunt. Somebody always draws a tag and go down to help with the hunt every year.

Can't you just see John Wayne riding across this sagebrush flat calling out "Fill your Hands"

After waiting that long don't put too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy what is truly a once in a lifetime chance.

Nothing more fun than chasing big bulls in September :2thumbs:
