Just a heads-up for those who cycle on the A.I. Causeway.
On Thursday (24 may), they started grinding off the pavement. According to one of the workers, the repaving will be complete sometime the week after Memorial Day weekend, hopefully by June 1. (But you know how these projects can drag on.)
I checked with the Park and they say only the causeway is being repaved, the other roads on the island won't be affected.

Sad, now to change my Monday plans....

I drove out there again this morning (Tuesday) to do some more mt. biking. They were out there again, grinding off the rest of the pavement. Looks like they didn't do anything between the last time I was out there and this morning! :haha:
So I'm thinking it won't be repaved and done by June 1. :fitz:

Welcome to Northern Utah. I have been back since 2005 and the roads are always tore up. What's really crazy is you'll see them do one area and then not even a year later tear up that new pavement and do it again.:crazycobasa::crazycobasa:

:lol8: I'm trying to figure out why they are redoing the Causeway, as the pavement seemed pretty good to me. Better than some other roads I've been on around here.
This (Friday) evening, I pedalled over to see how it was going. According to the lady in the entrance station, the contractor says the job will be done by June 10. Supposedly, they're going to do the paving between 7 PM and 7 AM. We'll see how it goes.

Pedalled over again on Tuesday evening, and surprise surprise, they are actually working on it! I turned around at the entrance station, so I don't know exactly how much progress they've made. But there's all new pavement in the area around the entrance, and I could see equipment on the road off in the distance.
Amusingly, there are signs saying the causeway is closed after 7 PM, but people were still driving in (nobody was in the entrance station). :haha:

Well, the pavement is nice now...but the bugs are terrible! :fitz:

LOL, Yep those "clouds of smoke" in the distance are usually brine flies. Look like misquitoes sort of but don't bite. Even worse are the "no-see 'ums". They are tiny little biting SOBs you encounter in the summer when you head into any of the brush. They love to get into you hair and bite, bite, bite, yet you can't really see them.
Thanks for the updates on road conditions though. Keep your eyes open during the early morning or evening hours and you'll probably see a coyote or two along the causeway.

Does it have a low rolling resistance or did they turn it into the crap they just did with the road by saltair that just wants to sap every ounce of energy out of you?

I've never ridden the road out by Saltair so I can't directly answer. But the new pavement on the causeway seems nice and smooth to me. It's real asphalt pavement, not just gravel dumped on oil (maybe that's what they did on the other road?)

Yep, that is what they did to the road... gackk oiled gravel doesn't make me happy :angryfire:
Sounds like I need to come and take a ride on the causeway

A liberal application of insect repellent is recommended! Especially if you continue onto the road on the island's east side (out toward Garr Ranch)!
