So, I was an idiot and saved an extremely important file to a flash drive last night and now the thing doesn't seem to want to work. It won't mount to any type of computer

You may have some luck with GetDataBack

Before you can run any type of data retrieval, you need to get the computer to see the flash drive. Is the flash drive one of those that has a slider (to retract the USB business end)? If so, ensure that its fully seated, give it a small jiggle and listen to see if your computer recognizes it's been inserted.

On a side note, I once ran my thumb-drive through the washing machine by mistake. It still worked afterwards but it went from USB 2.0 to USB 1.0.

If you Right Click on Computer, then Manage, then Disk Management, do you see any mystery drive listed in there that you don't recognize?

I run it on a Mac and its not recognized in any of the utilities, from UtilityDisk to the basic search patterns in the DOS-like Terminal. Its not recognized at all. I am guessing something along the internal pathway got fried the last night of its life. None of the free data recovery programs have worked thus far (as BruteForce mentioned). Gonna swing by SUU's IT department today but I am guessing they will not be able to service it.

And by Linux, you mean Ubuntu right? That's my last resort on accessing data.
