I know Zion regulations changed and I know it's supposedly for the best but I'm not sure how it works.

We (6 of us) want to do Heaps on Saturday. It says there are two reservable permits left for that day. Does that mean that ONLY 2 permits will be left? Once those two are gone, how many are left? Will I ever have a chance to grab them in line at the backcountry office or is the last chance drawing my only option?

It means 2 long range reservations are still available..... The last chance is your "next" chance to obtain a permit There should be 6 short term permits avaiable .. so you want to put in for a last chance. if the permits are not taken in the last chance they will be available at the backcountry desk.

Currently there are 8 avaiable permits, 2 long term, and 6 last chance.... is that clear as mud?

Makes total sense...thank you government.

So there will NEVER be any permits available at the window UNLESS they don't get taken in the last-chance drawing?

Correct... same as before ...when there were no permits at 9 if they were all picked up at 8.

did you apply for the last-minute drawing in this case? If so, how did it work out for you?
