Warning: this pictures below are pretty graphic and not for the faint of heart or those with a weak stomach.
So yesterday I crashed on my mountain bike. It wasn't really a crash, more like I tipped over going about 2 mph. I was riding down a singletrack in Corner Canyon and anther rider and his dog were coming up the trail so I unclipped my right foot and went to step down and the dumb dog ran under my foot, so I fell to the left where my foot was still clipped into the pedal and I couldn't catch myself. It was no big deal really... except for the front sprocket sliced my calf open like a kitchen turkey. It took over 30 stitches to close and is going to leave a wicked scar.
I had to ride two miles home and drive myself to the hospital.
The doc's were laughing because I placed a towel over the wound and ducted taped it in place so I would bleed all over my truck. They thought it was funny I used duct tape to patch myself up.
The worst part is I'm out of commission for doing fun stuff for the next 3 weeks.
Remember... you were warned!

Sorry to hear it, Ice. Thats a wicked wound. Hope it heals properly and quick.
Reminds me of the reasons why I don't mountain bike. I like my other sports too much.
Shit. That is nasty. Congrats on the cool scar though!

I'm concerned about the type of kitchen turkey you are eating...
Pretty wild, hope it heals quickly.
HOLY SMOKES that looks terrible.... Sorry about the injury, but pleased you seem to be in good spirits and apparently will heal up to 100%....
BUT OUCH!

My word! Whom but you would have the presence of mind to take "before" and "after" shots!
Get well soon; just be fortunate that it wasn't higher up the leg :bandit:.
p.s I'd sue the seamstress responsible for the blanket stitch.

This is why I quit riding clipless shoes. Too many slow motion tip overs. Hope that you heal soon.
I would like to ride some draper trails with you as a guide.

Wow! Wicked gash, but even more wicked stitches. The Doc that stitched you up clearly wasn't worried about scars or your appearance.

Nope, the doc was more worried about getting the stitches to hold because of the jagged cut. If the stitches failed it would be skin graphs. Those are industrial strength stitches. :)

Crazy! Never seen anything like it. Just out of curiosity, was the dog leashed? Isn't there a leash law in CC? Did the dog owner apologize or offer help?

One of my favorite saying....scars are tattoos with cool stories! You do not have a couple of new scars by the end of the biking season, it was a bad year!

Yes, there is a leash rule and no the dog wasn't leashed. But as a dog owner I don't blame the dog, it wasn't his fault, it was just a silly accident with large consequences for me. Yes, the dog owner asked if I was alright, but I don't think he had any clue about the gash in my leg. I still can't believe such a silly tip-over had such results.

Yeah, I had to cancel this weeks canyoneering trip because the doc has some crazy idea the rancid slot canyon water would not be good for the wound.
But I refuse to cancel my May 19th trip unless my leg is hanging by a tendon. :2thumbs:

That is one gnarly gash! But it's just a mere flesh wound - you will heal quickly. :-)

Wow nice wound!! Whenever you can discern the muscle fibers from the fat cells you know you've gotta pretty good one. Great job on the b4 and after pics. That slapdash stitch job will leave an impressive scar.

Today I got the stitches out.... I still can't swim in putrid canyoneering water for about 2 weeks or ride my mountain bike, but I'm hoping to do some dry canyons this week. I still have to keep the wound closed with Steri-Strip's for a couple of weeks so it doesn't split open.

OMG - that hurt just to look at it!!! :eek3: I think staying out of funky water until fully healed is a pretty good idea. Read the articles that are out there regarding the teenager who has contracted some sort of flesh eating disease after being injured on a zip line in the jungle. Sad.
