Keep in mind... I'm a rank amateur, emphasis on the 'rank'. :haha:

Option A: $160 for a Lee Big Stopper http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/686370-REG/LEE_Filters_10_STOP_GLASS_4X4_4_x_4_Big.html

Option B: $5 for a welding hood replacement lens. http://www.lowes.com/pd_178836-1703-KH618_0__?productId=1156773&Ntt=welding+replacement&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dwelding%2Breplaceme nt%26page%3D2&facetInfo=

A step up ring, some black silicone, and some black duct tape and I've got a new toy to play with! Plus I won't be devastated when I drop it on some slickrock in a canyon.

First attempt:

(made b/w so I wouldn't have to deal with the whole white balance issue)

Second attempt:

For this one I set the in camera white balance using a white piece of paper. Worked nice. I wish the falls weren't in shadow, but oh well, that's when I was there. Exposure time was just under 2 minutes a f22. Makes the people milling around on the trail just disappear!

Neither one were optimal conditions for using a 10stop filter, but it was fun anyway! Go try it!

This is genius! I've been wanting a ND filter for a while, but just can't justify the $50 or so that they cost. This is an excellent alternative that even I can afford .

Very windy today in the canyon!

Cool! I ordered and received the step up ring for my 67mm lens, and just have to roll down to the welding supply place to get the glass for it, construct it, and get busy photographing mah river here in town .
